Cecil the lion’s death has caused a huge outpouring of rage towards the man who hunted and killed him. What no one has really thought about is the fate of his cubs. Thankfully, Cecil the lion’s brother has been.

It’s been announced by researchers that Cecil’s brother is now looking after the cubs who they thought would be killed by Jericho, the lion who was next up in the hierarchy.

But according to the team at Oxford University’s Wildlife Conservation Unit, Cecil’s brother is doing all he can to defend the now fatherless cubs.

“As you probably know, the natural law in lion society is that when a male dies and his weakened coalition is usurped, the new incoming males kill their predecessors’ cubs. This may not happen because Cecil’s brother is still holding the fort.”

We think that lion family has seen enough tragedy for now. Good work Cecil’s brother!
